The 2017 Club Walking Holiday to Torquay and Dartmoor has now been completed and what a fantastic trip it was with a good time being had by all those who attended. Good weather, good walking, good company, good socialising and good organisation. Perfect.
A total of seven walks were provided and these were organised to suit all levels of aspiration and ability, with 2 longer walks, 3 intermediate walks and 2 shorter walks being available. The first walking day was based on Princetown in the heart of the Datrmoor National Park, with one each of longer, intermediate and shorter walks taking place, all in glorious sunshine, which was to stay with us for the duration of the trip, and all with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
The second day, as is usual on this type of event, gave our Members the chance to take part in the intermediate walk, or to forsake the boots for the day and take the optional coach tour. The walk was linear and took in a section of the South West Coastal Path from Brixham back to Torquay, while the coach tour took in the sights of Plymouth and Buckfast. Another excellent day.
Our final day of walking saw us travel to Moretonhampstead on the eastern side of the National Park and once again three walks took place, with all aspirations being provided for, and, with time in hand at the end of the walks to take in a delicious “Devon Cream Tea” in the lovely village.
Of course, after each day in their walking boots, our Members enjoyed their “pamper time”. They freshened up, wined, dined, socialised, danced and enjoyed the hospitaiity and evening entertainment provided by the Hotel Regina.
In addition to all the walking and social activities our Organiser also challenged us to take part in a limerick competition, which would result in, we were told, fantastic prizes being awarded, and to “inspire” us he even provided his own example as a guideline.
All the entries were impartially judged by our excellent Hotel Manager, Bartek, who said, as all judges do, “it was a very difficult choice”.
