About Altrincham and District Rambling Club

In September 1956 a notice was posted in what was then the local weekly newspaper - The Altrincham Guardian - announcing the intention to form a Rambling and Social Club, stating that anyone who was interested should meet at Richardson Café, which was located opposite the Post Office on Stamford New Road, Altricham.
Enough people turned up to form a committee and so The Altrincham and District CHA Rambling and Social Club, as it was originally named, was born. The notice was put in The Guardian by our founder, Russell Marsh, who became the Club's first President and served in this post for the next 10 plus years. Joan Toplis became Secretary.
Since this time the Club has evolved both in terms of the number of members and in the scope of its endeavours. We now have over 400 members who come from every walk of life, all of whom have collectively forged a great fellowship built around our common interest of walking and rambling in the beautiful North West of England.
