Club History

ADRC was founded in September 1956. Our founder, Russell Marsh placed a notice in the then local weekly newspaper – The Altrincham Guardian – announcing the intention to form a Walking Club. The notice asked that anyone who was interested should meet at the well-known local Richardson Café, which was located opposite the Post Office on Stamford New Road, Altrincham.

Enough people turned up to form a committee and so The Altrincham and District CHA Rambling and Social Club, as it was originally named, was born.  Russell Marsh became the Club’s first President and served in this post for the next 10 plus years, ably supported by the new Club Secretary Joan Toplis.  Since this time the Club has evolved, both in terms of the number of members and in the scope of its endeavours, with walks on Sundays and Wednesdays, summer coach trips and an annual club walking holiday all being available for members to participate in.
